What’s New?
After a few years of living in our current home, we have finally taken the time to hang up some pictures, decorate a bit and arrange things to look like we actually live here. I will say, that by the time we left Arizona, I had completely stopped hanging things on walls because I got sick of having to patch them up every time we moved from one rental to the next. And I think more recently, my brain finally turned on and was like "Hey! You bought this home! So stop thinking about how you will have to put putty over nail holes. You won't have to until you decide to sell one day in the far future!"
(Side note…the walls here have putty all over them still from when we moved in because we covered the previous owner's nail holes. But I can't decide on wall colors still, so yes, they will keep being splotchy for a while.)
It also hit me a few weeks ago, when I was getting our place ready for Thanksgiving, that even though we haven't lived in CA for roughly 10 years, when I think of decorations and holiday feelings, the first place I always think of is the house I grew up in. I love my home here, and I love how my parents decorate their home here, but there is something that always brings me back to our Livermore home around the holidays.
If that doesn't shout Christmas, then I don't know what does!!!
I hope, so much, that in the future, my kids get that same feeling. So while we are shaping this place up, I want to transform my home into a fun memory for my kids too!
I keep finding all of these fancy matching ideas, but matching everything to be the same colors and designs, and as I call it -- having the Pinterest Perfection vibe -- doesn't make me feel at home. It seems a bit like I wouldn't be allowed to touch anything and also that's not really me. I mean, "HELLO?! EARTH TO MATILDA. DO YOU SEE WHAT I WEAR ON A REGULAR BASIS?"
So, how did mom do it?
I am guessing it could take a few years to get it right…So in the meantime, in addition to the religious aspect of Christmas, it would be really cool to hear some of YOUR thoughts. What do YOU think of when Christmas comes to mind? (Feel free to comment here, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
And it could be anything…a place, a person or people, a feeling, a color, a song, a pair of shoes, a favorite string of lights? Maybe with some ideas, I can get there one day!
(By the way, if you know where I used to live…don't judge me on what it looks like now. After mom and dad left, that place got pretty weird looking in my opinion. But hey, to each their own, right?)
