Save the Children

This week I thought it would be great to bring everyone's attention to Save the Children, especially after seeing the news stories and pictures of the recent earthquake in Haiti.

"Save the Children's work saves and improves children's lives around the world. We work to ensure children have healthcare, food and shelter, as well as learning and child protection services when children need it most. We are committed to helping all children achieve their full potential by ensuring they grow up healthy, receive a good education, and stay safe.

Securing children's rights is the foundation of our work. Millions of children around the world are denied their rights, simply because of who they are of where they are from.

We know that to ensure every child has the chance for a future their rights must be upheld. Through our programming, emergency responses and advocacy, we put the most vulnerable children first, tackling the barriers to survival, learning and protection."

-From Save the Children - Who we are

There are a lot of different ways to support this organization, so this past Christmas we thought it would be fun to sponsor a little boy in honor of our little boy.

Our sponsored child is 8 years old as of this August, and his future dream has now changed from becoming a firefighter, to becoming a doctor. It is really fun knowing that we are helping a child reach their goals. Our money goes to his community, helping him receive supplies for learning, providing safe places to play, food and shelter!

If you choose to sponsor a child, there is a huge list of countries to look through, and once you pick the general location, there is also a list of children with their photos and ages. You can sponsor children in TONS of countries, and for now, we decided to sponsor a child in the U.S. Once you choose to sponsor a child, you get sent a picture of the child (which we keep posted on our fridge). You learn a little bit about them -- birthday, what they want to be when they grow up, what state they live in and a few other details about how to communicate via email and snail mail.

Save the Children often sends us little activities, post-cards, letters, and stickers to write notes to our sponsored child. It comes with pre-paid postage, and the little goodies get delivered to the child once it reaches the main mailing office.

I am hoping in the future we can take on a few more kids, of all different ages and be able to sponsor them as well.

If you are interested in some of the Ways to Give, such as sponsoring a child, one time donations, starting a fundraiser, or even Haiti Earthquake Crisis Relief Fund, I have posted the link below.
